History
This area of Otsego was once part of Frankfort Township, settled in 1854 by pioneers from Germany who named it after an ancient city in Prussia. The portion east of Highway 101 was annexed to Otsego in 1994 through a boundary agreement with St. Michael, Albertville, and Frankfort Township, which later merged mostly with St. Michael. In the late 1800s, local brickyards along the Mississippi and Crow Rivers produced the yellow-cream bricks seen in landmarks like the Lahn and Vasseur houses and the old St. Michael Catholic Church. The site of today’s Frankfort Park was originally planned for townhomes, but after the 2000s recession, the developer sold the land to the City in 2009, which created the neighborhood park using park-development funds.
