Water Meters

Attention:

Residents with water meters that are 15 years old or older will receive a letter from the City in January 2026 with instructions on how to schedule a replacement appointment. City staff will complete the meter swap during regular business hours, and the process typically takes about 30 minutes at no cost to the resident. Water service will be temporarily shut off during the installation. Please ensure someone 18 or older is present to provide access and help identify the meter location.

Water meters are installed inside each building serviced by the public water system. They range from 5/8” to 4” in diameter. Water meters measure the flow of water to a building and then a radio frequency is picked up by the city to get accurate readings each month. When the internal battery dies on the water meter, they have to be replaced.  The old units are then recycled after being replaced. Newer units can store water use data for up to 96 days so if there is ever an issue, the use can be tracked back to see when problems occurred.
