Curb Stop

A curb stop, also known as a curb valve, is a type of valve used in water supply systems. It is typically located near the curb or property line and allows for the control of water flow to an individual property. Curb stops are crucial components in water distribution systems, enabling swift management of water flow and are accessible for operation from aboveground. Property owners are responsible for this device, its security and access.

To find your curb stop, you need to look for the curb stop box, which is almost always located near the sidewalk or street at the front edge of your property. The curb stop is located roughly six feet underground and is accessed with a special wrench or key. Residents can check out the Curb Stop Tools at City Hall or the West Wastewater Treatment Facility.

If you're having difficulty locating the valve, you can contact Otsego Utilities or City Hall to schedule an appointment for someone to come out and locate it and turn it off or on. There is a $75 fee for this service. Alternatively, you may choose to contact a plumber.
