West Wastewater Treatment Facility
Ribbon Cutting Events

The Otsego West Wastewater Treatment Facility celebrated its recent expansion with two ribbon cutting events. On July 14th, City staff gathered on site to tour the facility, learn about the improvements, and recognize the milestone. A second event was held shortly after on July 28th, welcoming City Council, City Staff, Engineering Staff, Rice Lake and other Project Contractors, the Star News, and Regulatory Officials. Both events highlighted the importance of the upgraded facility and its role in supporting Otsego’s continued growth and environmental stewardship.

The Power of Purple: Conserving Water, One Hydrant at a Time

Otsego’s purple hydrants—located exclusively at the Wastewater Treatment Facility—deliver non-potable recycled water, conserving more than
6 million gallons of drinking water annually. These specialized hydrants not only ease demand on the municipal water system,
but also promote sustainable growth, reduce utility expenses, and strengthen drought preparedness. Their unmistakable purple color also serves as a visual reminder of the City’s commitment to smarter water use.

Street Mill & Overlay Projects

The Street Mill and Overlay project began last week in the residential neighborhoods of Duerr Creek, Remington Coves, and Zimmer Farms.

The project entails removing the top portion of the existing asphalt surface by milling (approximately 1.25” to 1.5” thick).  The street will then see 1.5” of new asphalt placed.  The street construction will be quick with the milling portion taking less than a day in each development.  A paving crew will then pave the street within a week. During the time in between, the street is passable but will have a roughened surface.  At no time will anyone not be able to enter their driveways (except for a few minutes while construction occurs directly in front of the driveway).
