The number of all career fire departments and combination fire departments continue to grow rapidly in Minnesota as more and more cities struggle to maintain traditional "volunteers" to staff their fire departments. All three of the fire departments that provide contract fire services to Otsego are considered combination fire departments.

To be considered a career fire department, 100% of your firefighters need to be full-time career staff. By MN definition, a combination fire department is when one or more of your staff is full-time, but you still utilize part-time or paid-on-call staff as well.
